MONACO GP – Hamilton top second practice

Lewis Hamilton continued where he left off in another wet practice session ahead of this weekend’s Monaco Grand Prix. The double world champion was 0.7040 seconds ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in third.

Roberto Merhi was a casualty early in the session after he hit the brakes running down to the harbour side chicane. He hit barrier nose-first and sliding to a halt in the run-off area at the chicane. Merhi’s crash brought out the red flag.

During the stoppage heavy rain moved into the principally meaning may drivers when out on the intermediate tyres in order to get a feel for the circuit. However Rosberg and Force India’s Sergio Perez ran the more heavily treaded ‘extreme’ wets.

The fastest time in the wet was set by Kvyat from Alonso. Daniel Ricciardo said after the session that he feels Red Bull may be able to fight  Ferrari to be second fastest behind Mercedes this weekend. Max Verstappen went sixth fastest beating his team-mate Carlos Sainz.

McLaren’s Fernando Alonso was seventh backing up his claims that the team may gain there first points of 2015.
