CHINESE GP: Hamilton takes pole by a fraction from Rosberg

Lewis Hamilton has taken pole position for this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix ahead of Nico Rosberg and Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton set a 1:35.824 to go a fraction quicker than Rosberg while Vettel was almost a second of the Mercedes.

While the Williams of Felipe Massa and Valtteri Bottas managed to qualify fourth and fifth ahead of Kimi Raikkonen’s Ferrari in sixth. Daniel Ricciardo was the best Red Bull lining up behind Raikkonen.

Ferrari however do not appear to be able to challenge Mercedes this weekend on one lap pace because of the cooler temperatures however are expected to be strong on race pace. McLaren had another difficult day after Jenson Button and Fernando Alonso were 17th and 18th, failing to get into the second part of qualifying.

Williams continue to seek there place back as best of the rest by splitting the Ferrari’s. Red Bull looked to be the third fastest team in third practice. However they dropped away with Daniel Ricciardo going seventh and his team-mate Daniil Kvyat failed to make Q3 qualifying twelfth fastest.

However McLaren were only 1.7 seconds off the pace set by Vettel in Q1. Jenson Button was 0.004 seconds quicker than Alonso who missed all of final practice after an engine problem stranded him out on track.
