SPANISH GP – Rosberg edges Hamilton in the Morning

Nico Rosberg was slightly ahead of Lewis Hamilton in the first practice session ahead of the Spanish Grand Prix. Rosberg was faster than Hamilton by 0.07 seconds and both Mercedes a second ahead of Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel.

Hamilton could have possibly gone faster than Rosberg after going faster in the first two sectors but slid off at the final chicane. Williams test driver Susie Wolff first practice drive earned her fourteenth place. She was 0.8 seconds of her team-mate Felipe Massa.

Other test drivers Rafalle Marciello was twelfth for Sauber and Jolyan Palmer was thirteenth fastest for Louts. Toro Rosso drivers Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen were fifth and sixth. Meaning they were ahead of Red Bull’s Daniil Kyvat and Daniel Ricciardo.

Ricciardo failed to get out until the final 10 minutes of the session because of engine reliability problems. McLaren’s of Fernando Alonso and Jenson Button were only 15th and 16th

Alonso and button were only separated by 0.004 of a second. Alonso however ended the session with a dramatic spin on the exit of Turn 11 into Turn 12.
