CHINESE GP: Hamilton leads Mercedes fight back

Lewis Hamilton went fastest during the first practice session for this weekend’s Chinese Grand Prix ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg. While the Ferrari’s of Sebastian Vettel was third and Kimi Raikkonen fourth.

Hamilton set the time of 1:39.033 giving him a half a second gap over Vettel’s Ferrari. Ferrari has appeared to slip away today because the conditions in Shanghi which give Mercedes a small edge. Sauber’s Felipe Nasr once again impressed ending thee session fifth fastest.

Nasr was ahead of the Red Bulls of Daniel Ricciardo and Daniil Kvyat, who were driving with new brakes after the team changed suppliers for this weekend after struggling in Malaysia.

Carlos Sainz went eightieth fastest for Toro Rosso while Williams kept a low profile. While the Williams of Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa managed to round out the top ten.

McLaren had a better morning with Jenson Button briefly in the top ten but it was tight in the midfield so he ended up in thirteenth. While Fernando Alonso was further three-tenths of Button’s time.
