Mercedes
Qualifying – 1st Lewis Hamilton 2nd Nico Rosberg
Hamilton looks to be on form and as ever will be keen to stay ahead of Rosberg a task which may prove difficult on Sunday. Hamilton needs a win to extend his narrow lead in the championship. Nigel Mansell said once that Silverstone is worth an extra tenth of second.
Williams
Qualifying – 3rd Felipe Massa, 4th Valtteri Bottas
Williams have had another strong day and could be on their way back to the top over time. They had appeared to slip back lately but seem to be up there again. We would all like the team to return to form again but this requires investment. They like Mercedes have the people to do it.
Ferrari
Qualifying – 5th Kimi Raikkonen, 6th Sebastian Vettel
Ferrari appears to be slipping away a bit in recent races. Williams have filled the gap they left behind. Raikkonen has listened to the order to improve from Maurizio Arrivabene to prove himself if he wants retain his seat.
Red Bull
Qualifying – 7th Daniil Kvyat, 10th Daniel Ricciardo
Mixed day for Red Bull after Daniel Ricciardo’s fastest lap which he was on course to beat Daniil Kvyat was disallowed. Red Bull may need time to recover as there a long way off the pace.
Lotus
Qualifying – 12th Romain Grosjean, 13th Pastor Maldonado
Both drivers are off the pace of where we expect them to be. Whether it’s just a bad qualifying or their failing away time will tell.
