MEXICAN GP – Rosberg tops second practice from the Red Bull’s
Nico Rosberg was fastest going ahead of both Red Bull’s in the second practice for this weekend’s Mexican Grand Prix. A week on from winning a third title his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton was only fourth.
The Mercedes duo was surprisingly split by both Red Bulls with Daniil Kvyat going faster than Daniel Ricciardo. The Ferrari was fifth and sixth with Sebastian Vettel leading Kimi Raikkonen. Williams’s Valtteri Bottas was seventh fastest.
Fernando Alonso was eighth and Jenson Button ninth. But it wasn’t plane sailing for brit who suffered with electrical problem with the upgraded Honda engine which kept him in the pits until halfway through the session.
Once Button got out on track he just managed to get a timed lap in before the rain came down. Both McLarens will be starting last because of grid penalties for using more than the permitted number of engines.
After going fastest in FP1 Max Verstappen lost control of his Toro Rosso crashing after losing control out of the penultimate corner and smashing into the barriers at the last one.
It made a bittersweet day for the 18-year old after topping FP1 earlier in the day.
Williams Valtteri Bottas escaped without major damage after losing control while braking from more than 200mph for the first corner and fortunate to get away with only a damaged front wing.
