BAHRAIN GP – Verstappen fastest in final practice by a tenth

Testing & Race Reports

Max Verstappen was fastest in the final practice session for this weekends Bahrain Grand Prix. The Red Bull driver was a tenth faster than the Mercedes of Lewis Hamilton.

The Red Bull driver topped a closely fought session, which saw the top eight covered by less than a second. The pack appears close, with Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel half a second off the pace. Vettel looked on course to take the top spot once again, until a late lap put the Dutchman fastest.

The only incident of the session was caused with just over twenty minutes to go. Haas’s Romain Grosjean lost the rear a turn four, sending him spinning into the tyre wall. But he was able to rejoin the track and return to the pits for repairs, though, and resumed action before the hour was out.

Mercedes, Red Bull and Ferrari have been quite evenly matched this weekend, however FP3 is not generally representative of form.

The conditions in the intense desert sun are very different from those the drivers will encounter in qualifying at race, which start at dusk, when temperatures begin to drop.

The other Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo could only manage seventh. Fernando Alonso was twelve ahead of team-mate Stoffel Vandoorne.
