BAHRAIN GP – Rosberg edges out Hamilton in second practice
Nico Rosberg was fastest in the second practice for this weekend Bahrain Grand Prix. Rosberg was .240 seconds faster than his team-mate Lewis Hamilton. There was a surprise as McLaren’s Jenson Button was third fastest.
The evening session is seen as the more relevant session as the race in Bahrain takes place at the same time and the temp. Both Rosberg and Hamilton looked evenly matched on circuit. Button found time on the supersoft tyres joking to his tem “I found the go-faster button.”
It was a much different evening for Ferrari after Sebastian Vettel stopped out on track spraying water. He said on team radio: “Something is not right. I stop the car. I lost drive.” However the German still finished sixth ahead of the Red Bulls of Daniil Kvyat and Daniel Ricciardo.
Vettel did manage to do his race simulation run which was good and were close to the Mercedes. He told the team over the radio that the rear left wheel was not properly attached to the car.
Vettel told Sky Sports “Mercedes are the benchmark, they have looked really competitive this afternoon and this evening, but hopefully we can be a bit closer.”
Kyvat and Riccardo were spilt by the Williams of Valtteri Bottas while his team-mate Felipe Massa was tenth. The Red Bulls and Williams look very close. McLaren Stoffel Vandoorne was just outside the top ten.
Esteban Gutierrez was faster than Haas team-mate Romain Grosjean who lost his front wing over the kerbs. This brought out the virtual safety car.
