MALAYSIAN GP: Hamilton overcomes setbacks to go fastest in FP2
Lewis Hamilton overcame his setbacks in the morning to go fastest during second practice for this weekend’s Malaysian Grand Prix ahead of Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Rosberg.
Will Stevens was first out for Manor setting a benchmark of 1:46.705 in the Manor. Ferrari looked strong earlier on going fastest but when the Mercedes got on track with Nico Rosberg soon going to the top of the time sheets setting a 1:40.652.
Roberto Merhi brought out the red flag after spinning as he entered the final sector and was shortly followed by Sebastian Vettel. Hamilton’s difficult day continued as he lost telemetry on his Mercedes.
It was a difficult session for Lotus with Pastor Maldonado’s Lotus losing one of his side pods which seemingly popped out. While his team-mate Romain Grosjean locked up going of the circuit. Marcus Ericcson reported a lack of grip which was being reported other drivers as well.
Hamilton finally got some free track showing the pace of the Mercedes going fastest. But the problems returned later in his afternoon. Fernando Alonso demonstrated the lack of grip by locking up going into the pits.
It was a good return for Alonso knocking up a near race distance following his return to the track after a crash in preseason testing.
