HUNGARIAN GP – Hamilton fastest as Red Bull look to be a treat too
Lewis Hamilton was fastest in second practice for this weekend’s Hungarian Grand Prix. The reigning world champion was 0.7 seconds ahead of his team-mate Nico Rosberg in third.
Red Bull had a strong session managing to separate the Mercedes duo with Daniil Kvyat going second and Daniel Ricciardo fourth. Kimi Raikkonen was faster than his Ferrari team-mate Sebastian Vettel who had two spins during the session.
Toro Rosso’s Carlos Sainz managed to separate the Ferrari team-mates.
Hamilton looked strong on both sets of tyres which helped him open the .7 gap to Rosberg. Hamilton looks to be in a strong position because he has won half of the races he has competed in at the Hungaroring.
Hamilton said “It was really good fun, but incredibly hot – hotter than a sauna. I lost over a kilo just then so it is going to be tough in the race.”
Adding “This morning I was thinking maybe this is my favourite track. It is so fun to drive – the combination of corners… It’s bumpy, it feels old school.”
Rosberg did try to close the gap to his Mercedes team-mate but he needed to watch for Red Bull who look to be the second fastest team this weekend. The Hungaroring twisty nature could mean that Red Bull maybe closer to the Mercedes and Ferrari’s.
Ricciardo said “Low fuel was pretty good, we can still clean it up a bit, but high fuel we’re pretty much there. I won’t get too excited yet, though.”
Force India failed to run after the dramatic crash in first practice for Sergio Perez. Perez’s right-rear suspension broke as he ran wide. His car flipped and rolled over digging the rear tyre into the ground.
