BRAZILIAN GP – Hamilton keeps it on track as drama unfolds behind as drivers struggle including heartbreak for Massa

Lewis Hamilton has taken victory in a trilling action packed Brazilian Grand Prix to ensure the title goes to the wire in Abu Dhabi. The race which started in appalling conditions saw the world champion lead the race from the start while the action unfolded behind him.

It was another of his fantastic drives in wet conditions which saw him lead Nico Rosberg home which means he needs his team-mate to have a bad race next time out. But, for Hamilton it moves him up to second behind seven times world champion Michael Schumacher in the all-time winners list.

Red Bull’s Max Verstappen kept his car out off the wall after spinning at the top off the hill. The Dutch teenager may off upset Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel in Mexico but he kept his car within the limits, pushing Vettel to the edge as he past him.

Hamilton told Sky Sport “This is the race I have been dreaming of winning since I was very, very young. These experiences feel surreal and it won’t kick in until later.”

The weather provided many accidents, even before the raced had begun Interlagos the circuit between two lakes had drew it first blood, Haas’s Romain Grosjean spun his Haas on the way to the grid. This caused a delay to the start.

Another casualty was Felipe Massa racing at home for the last time with the Brazilian crashing his car then walking down the pits after pulling the flag out of his Williams to the applause of the fans and colleagues. Sao Paulo being the place of heart break once again.

Massa told Sky Sports “It is so difficult to explain the feeling, this is such a special place for me. God knows what to do. Just stopping in that place, the feeling from the people was so special.”

Kimi Raikkonen crashed his Ferrari has the race restarted, it was a hair raising incident with the Fin losing control of the car bringing out the red flag as he slammed his car into the wall. This caused a huge clean-up operation but was a relief has he just missed Verstappen and Esteban Ocon, with Nico Hulkenberg picking up debris.

Sergio Perez finished fourth, followed by the recovering Vettel, who felt Verstappen pushed him off the track in the closing stages, and Carlos Sainz Jr.

Felipe Nasr’s home race was going a lot better as he scored Sauber’s first points of the season meaning the Swiss team have jumped Manor in the Constructors’ Championship. For both teams, the financial repercussions could be enormous.

Nico Hulkenberg was seventh, Daniel Ricciardo eighth with Fernando Alonso claiming tenth.
