ABU DHABI GP – Rosberg tops a closely fought second practice with Hamilton

Testing & Race Reports

Nico Rosberg turned the tables on his team-mate Lewis Hamilton to go fastest by a tenth of a second during a closely fought second practice session for this weekend’s Abu Dhabi Grand Prix.

The session wasn’t only close between the two Mercedes drivers with the top nine drivers were covered by less than a second. Force India’s Sergio Perez showed the team had strong pace by going second and showed the sliver arrows may have some challenge this weekend.

Red Bulls Daniel Riccardo was fourth ahead of his former team-mate Sebastian Vettel in fifth. Ferrari maybe able to challenge going into the race based on their long pace but it may prove difficult in tomorrow evenings qualifying session.

Hamilton did however lead the session before he and  switch to long runs. The British driver had a .403 over Rosberg on the soft tyres but when they switched to the super soft tyres the gap between the pair was .375. However Perez managed to keep the pressure on by being .485 behind Hamilton.

Williams were well off there usual pace with Valtteri Bottas and Felipe Massa just outside the top ten. However this is normal for the team who mask there pace until Saturday morning so expect them to be mixing it with the Red Bull’s on Saturday and Sunday.

The session’s only drama came from Carlos Sainz who rolled to a stop with a undisclosed problem.
