TFTV – Brazil 2008 – a Hollywood ending
It wet day At Interlagos for the championship show down between Lewis Hamilton and local boy Felipe Massa. Away they went into turn one front runners make a good start with them all getting way cleanly.
David Coulthard out after he was hit from behind in his final Grand Prix. Massa soon opened his lead but that was short lived as the Safety car came out following Coulthard’s disappointing end to his career. Massa led away on the restart from Jarno Truli and Kimi Raikkonen.
The first pit stops began on lap nine with Hamilton stopping a few laps later. Then a few laps later Truli went spinning on the exit of the Senna S allowing Timo Glock and Sebastian Bourdais to pass him.
Hamilton knew he needed fifth place so he made the move Giancarlo Fisichella into turn one. Massa made his stop with thirty one laps remaining with him taking on fuel to get him to the end of the race re-joining behind Hamilton.
Hamilton’s final planned stop was also on lap thirty one. He soon was back in fifth what he needed to claim the title. Sebastian Vettel pitted elven laps later re-joining fifth. Reports of rain were coming in a few laps to go. It did eight laps remaining everyone began to look up for rain.
I got heavy with just a few laps remaining everyone began to look at the sky to find out what was going on with the weather. This was bad for Hamilton as he had Vettel on his back. They both headed into the pits with five laps remaining both switching to inters.
Hamilton was fifth but Vettel was on the back of his McLaren. Hamilton allowed Robert Kubica through this also helped Vettel pushing the him out of position. It looked all over for the second year in a row but Hamilton was determined to fight back.
Felipe Massa cross the line to become champion as it looked unlikely that Hamilton could get fifth. However Hamilton fought back and made a risky move to pass Glock to gain the title by a single point.
