HUNGARIAN GP – Di Resta replaces Massa for the rest of the weekend
Paul di Resta will return to Formula One this weekend for the Hungarian Grand Prix, with Williams after Felipe Massa withdrew half way through third practice.
The Brazilian left unwell following practice on Friday and was taken to the medical centre after feeling sick and, after examination at the track’s medical centre, he was transferred to hospital in Budapest for further checks. No major issue was discovered.
It will be Di Resta’s fifty-ninth career start and his first since the 2013 Brazilian Grand Prix. The news leaves Sky Sports without a co-commentator after Martin Brundle was taken ill at the British Grand Prix two weeks ago. Thou he is expected to be replaced by former Super Auri driver Anthony Davidson.
Di Resta said in commentary earlier today “I’m ready to pounce if he needs a stand in. You’re very anxious. Nervous but very excited. You go straight in the deep end.”
“It’s a tricky little track. You have to be very committed and confident. You just have to get in the car and do the job possible. There’s no pressure out there.”
The Scotsman will be thrown in at the deep end, thou he has driven a Formula One car recently he hasn’t drove a 2017 spec car.
Without having driven in any of the practice sessions held so far this weekend, di Resta will need to get within 107 percent of the fastest time to be guaranteed a place on the starting grid.
