Sebastian Vettel was fastest during second practice ahead of this weekend\u2019s Austrian Grand Prix ahead of Mercedes\u2019s Nico Rosberg and his Ferrari team-mate\u00a0Kimi Raikkonen.<\/p>\n
Hamilton didn\u2019t manage to complete a lap on his qualifying run on the faster tyres as he made three separate mistakes. He was on one of his runs on course to beat Rosberg’s time on one lap before running wide at the difficult final corner, Turn Nine.<\/p>\n
He had also made errors on two other attempts at a qualifying simulation. Later on he managed to go faster than the Ferrari\u2019s. Based on the data Sunday\u2019s Grand Prix looks to be a fight between Mercedes and Ferrari. With the other Mercedes powered teams Williams, Lotus and Force India behind them.<\/p>\n
Daniel Ricciardo was twelfth and Daniil Kvyat was seventeenth with Ricciardo already having and engine change will leave him with a penalty. Kvyat may also change his engine which means both cars will drop ten places after qualifying.<\/p>\n
Nico Hulkenberg was sixth for Force India ahead of L otus’s Romain Grosjean, the Toro Rosso of Max Verstappen, Felipe Nasr’s Sauber and Hulkenberg’s team-mate Sergio Perez.<\/p>\n
Both Williams drivers were well down the order with Valtteri Bottas fourteenth and Felipe Massa fifteenth. Williams often run heavy on fuel on Friday, disguising their true competitiveness.<\/p>\n
McLaren’s problems continued as Jenson Button was forced to abandon running with a loss of power less than halfway through the session. Then they stopped his team-mate Fernando Alonso as precautionary measure.<\/p>\n
