Nico Rosberg was quickest during first practice ahead of Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton for this weekend\u2019s Austrian Grand Prix. The session saw both drivers go off the circuit and Hamilton may have gone quicker if he didn\u2019t make an error.<\/p>\n
Fins Kimi Raikkonen and Valtteri Bottas were behind the two Mercedes for Ferrari and Williams respectively. Rosberg started the session fastest with Hamilton trying to recover but lost the time after he made a mistake in the final sector.<\/p>\n
Two champions Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel and McLaren’s Fernando Alonso both suffered engine problems. Vettel\u2019s Ferrari stopped Turns One and Two after just four laps and was unable to run.<\/p>\n
Alonso will start last regardless of where he qualifies after using fifth components of his engine allocation. However he failed to get running until the final 15 minutes of the session. McLaren was hoping to test their new aero package. He finished seventeenth behind his team-mate Button.<\/p>\n
Many drivers including Raikkonen, Red Bull’s Daniil Kvyat, and Force India’s Sergio Perez, both Toro Rosso drivers and Lotus’s Pastor Maldonado all went off at turn eight.<\/p>\n
Max Verstappen complained the Toro Rosso was “undriveable” it had so much oversteer which caused him to go off. Verstappen still finished ahead of William\u2019s Felipe Massa and Force India’s Sergio Perez.<\/p>\n
Off track it was a near miss for Ferrari team principal Maurizio Arrivabene stepped off the pit wall to walk back to the garage just after Williams released Felipe Massa from his pit box.<\/p>\n
