Ferrari\u2019s Sebastian Vettel was fifth 1.6 seconds of Hamilton\u2019s time.<\/p>\n<p>The champion\u2019s session wasn\u2019t entirely clear after he had a late spin but remained on track. Hamilton really wants to beat Rosberg after being robbed of victory in Monaco after a team strategy error cost him victory.<\/p>\n<p>Ferrari who has brought a bhp upgrade to this weekend has not managed to catch Mercedes. However, Mercedes have brought their own upgrade which has been supplied to all there team\u2019s.<\/p>\n<p>Felipe Massa was sixth backing up the belief that Williams will be better in place following a poor performance in Monaco. Daniil Kvyat was ahead of the Louts of Pastor Maldonado in eightieth and the McLaren of Fernando Alonso and Williams&#8217;s Valtteri Bottas.<\/p>\n<p>Fernando Alonso who hasn\u2019t managed to score a point this season was ninth for McLaren ahead of Toro Rosso\u2019s Max Verstappen in tenth.<\/p>\n<p>Practice resumes at 2pm local time (19:00 BST 18:00 GMT) and forecasts suggest it could be hit by rain showers.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/f1vault.co.uk\/canadian-grand-prix-practice-1\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Practice 1 Result<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Lewis Hamilton has beaten his Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg to go fastest by four tenths of a second to go fastest in first practice ahead of this weekend\u2019s Canadian Grand Prix.
