Ferrari\u2019s Sebastian Vettel was fastest in the second practice for this weekends British Grand Prix. The German was a tenth faster than his championship rival Lewis Hamilton who topped FP1 by three-tenths of a second.<\/p>\n
The Mercedes driver appeared to lose time in the final sector with his rear looking to be all over the place. Ferrari has brought a new floor this weekend, but there could be more to give from the car as the team doesn\u2019t tend to show the true performance on Friday.<\/p>\n
Valtteri Bottas was third fastest, a further half a tenth off the pace of his teammate. However, the Finn was running his engine in a precautionary mode following his retirement in Sunday\u2019s Austrian Grand Prix. He was two tenths faster than Kimi Raikkonen.<\/p>\n
Daniel Ricciardo was the fastest Red Bull in fifth, after his teammate ,Max Verstappen crashed out at Luffield. The Dutchman lost the rear before the front snapped sending him into a spin.<\/p>\n
Verstappen also suffered a gearbox glitch during Practice One, leaving the Dutchman, will be heading into the weekend on the back foot following his spin. However, as Verstappen wasn’t running one of his race gearboxes, there appears to be no threat of a grid penalty.<\/p>\n
Looking at the teams race pace, it appears as if Mercedes hold an advantage over Ferrari. Hamilton was more than half a second faster than Raikkonen on the soft tyre. While Vettel focused on the slowest medium compound which appeared slightly slower than Hamilton<\/p>\n
After a turbulent few days for McLaren, Fernando Alonso finished the day sixth fastest. The Spaniard was half a second ahead of Nico Hulkenberg\u2019s Renault.<\/p>\n
Both Force India\u2019s delivered a strong performance ahead of the teams\u2019 home race, with Esteban Ocon eighth and Sergio Perez ninth. Charles Leclerc rounded out the top ten, the Monacan was six-thousandths of a second faster than Carlos Sainz.<\/p>\n
The Spaniard did suffer a spin in the closing quarter of an hour at Brooklands. Toro Rosso\u2019s Pierre Gasly retained thirteenth, that was despite his power unit problems. The Frenchman was forced to pull off as he went through The Loop onto the Wellington Straight.<\/p>\n
There was another drama too, Leclerc spun late on, he appeared to get the tyre onto the grass at Brooklands. That left the Sauber driver tenth fastest.<\/p>\n
Williams’s Lance Stroll and Sergey Sirotkin were 15th and 16th, ahead of the McLaren of Stoffel Vandoorne and Brendon Hartley’s Toro Rosso.<\/p>\n
