Round fourteen of the season sees Formula One return to South East Asia and the streets of Marina Bay for the Singapore Grand Prix. Singapore joined the calendar in 2008, becoming the sports first night race, all of the sessions apart from practice one, which begins at sunset takes place under the cover of darkness.<\/p>\n

The street circuit through up drama and excitement as drivers push themselves against the heat and the narrow winding streets. Overtaking in Singapore is possible, but like with many street circuits can be difficult. The race takes place against the backdrop of the cities famous back drop.<\/p>\n

The first Grand Prix took place at Thomson Road as the Malaysian Grand Prix in 1962, but after gaining independence the race became the Singapore Grand Prix, which ran until 1972. These races were not part of the world championship until 2008. That 2008 has become famous as Fernando Alonso took the win, after team-mate Nelson Piquet, Jr. spun out and crashed on lap 14, bringing out the safety car after being asked by the team to crash deliberate, to give an advantage to Alonso.<\/p>\n

This year’s race will play to the hands of Ferrari, as it is a low-speed circuit and despite the dominance of Mercedes they have previously struggled here since the introduction of the hybrid power units.<\/p>\n

What happened in 2016?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Mercedes Nico Rosberg held off Red Bull\u2019s Daniel Ricciardo to take the lead of the championship from team-mate Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton himself was under pressure from the Ferrari of Kimi Raikkonen, that caused him to change from a two to a three stop race. The race started in dramatic style after Nico Hulkenberg got hit spinning him into the pit wall losing his rear tyre bringing out the safety car.<\/p>\n

After starting from the back Sebastian Vettel fought his way back to fifth place. It was a good drive after a long first stint to allow him to overtake.<\/p>\n

Nico Rosberg comes into Sheares for the quick turn goes to inside the across the track straight for turn two goes onto the kerb then starts breaking for three. Good then starts accelerating out of the corner thro ugh the kink at four then along nicely into five. Then along the straight through turn six then breaks taking kerb on entry and through Memorial Corner.<\/p>\n

Then the short straight to Stamford at 99kph gets close to the outside then runs close to the wall one exit. Does same thing at Padang. Onto the run to Singapore Sling good through the now ninety corner where the first chicane was. Nice through eleven and twelve. Goes over the bridge before turning slightly.<\/p>\n

Begins breaking for turn thirteen along the harbour goes to the outside starts accelerating, before breaking for the ninety degree Connaught.\u00a0 Then heads to the kink at fifteen then sixteenth 90KPH slow corner before seventeen.\u00a0 Along the harbour again, before breaking for Bay. Good under the Grandstand and exits ok.<\/p>\n

Good through twenty and twenty one before building speed then slightly breaking for twenty two then onto the gas through twenty three setting 01:42.584. his lap was the fastest ever set around Singapore streets.<\/p>\n
