Round nine of the season sees Formula One head to Austria and the Red Bull Ring. The Circuit first held a race in the late 1960\u2019s, but like many circuits has seen many changes with the current layout dating back 2014. The Osterreichring was built to replace the outdated Zeltweg Airfield not far away from the current circuit.<\/p>\n

The Red Bull Ring has stunning backdrops around the shortest lap of the season with the 2.6 miles set against the Styrian Mountains. The circuit\u2019s original name translates into English as the Austrian Circuit. The race is known for its high speed and fast flowing nature and has seen many teams take victory over the decades. The circuit sits in a natural bowl and is one of the fastest on the calendar<\/p>\n

The 1970 race was dominated by Jochen Rindit, however, it was his Ferrari team-mate Jacky Ickx who took the victory. But Rindit\u2019s life would be cut short days later, after a crash in practice for the Italian Grand Prix at Monza, becoming the sport’s first, and to the only posthumous champion (to date).<\/p>\n

In recent years, the circuit has not delivered much success for Red Bull or Toro Rosso as the Mercedes have dominated the race. Including a Mercedes powered 1-2-3-4 in 2014, with the works team and both Williams. But, with Ferrari and Red Bull closing up will Mercedes keep their form going?<\/p>\n

What happened in 2016?<\/strong><\/p>\n

Lewis Hamilton took victory following last lap contact with Mercedes team-mate Nico Rosberg in what team boss Toto Wolff described as \u201cbrainless.\u201d The race saw many incidents including Ferrari\u2019s Sebastian Vettel being forced to retire after his right rear tyre blowout.<\/p>\n

Red Bull\u2019s Max Verstappen finished second despite contact on the final lap with Kimi Raikkonen, but that didn\u2019t stop him passing Rosberg to take second. While Pascal Wehrlein scored his first points of the season and the first for Manor since May 2014.<\/p>\n

A lap of the Red Bull Ring <\/strong><\/p>\n

Across to the outside for Hamilton for the short Turn One which he hits the apex beautifully before going to the outside on the exit of the corner. Through the kink and the track appears to be damper than at One but good thought two dropping to second. Goes to third for turn three taking a bit of kerb on exit.<\/p>\n

Bit of oversteer through four but goes through OK on the short run to five which he does perfectly and six as well. Good through seven going to the inside before darting back across for eight running to the line and a 01:07.922.<\/p>\n

The conditions were perfect for Hamilton who always goes well in these mix conditions and sets him up well.<\/p>\n
