Montreal is well known for the final corner known as the Wall of Champions. The name emerged in 1999 after Villeneuve son Jacques, Michael Schumacher both crashed into the wall during.

This circuit has thrown up some surprises including the only win for Sabuer with Robert Kubica in 2008, but that maybe due to the retirements of Kimi Raikkonen and Lewis Hamilton after they collided in the pit lane. Hamilton has been king here through-out his career with five wins and can he make it six and three back to back wins in Montreal.

Montreal was also the setting for the longest Grand Prix in 2011, wet weather caused lengthy delays. Button started from fourth behind his team-mate Lewis Hamilton but the two made contact on the start finish straight, dropping him to last. Button then was last but miraculously was running second when Sebastian Vettel made a mistake on the last lap of the race.

So 2017 with Lance Stroll on the grid the first Canadian in a decade can Montreal deliver another cracker this season?

Facts and figures

Race

FORMULA 1 GRAND PRIX DU CANADA 2017

Venue

Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, Montreal, Quebec

Circuit Length

4.361km (2.709 mi)

Laps

70

Race Distance

305.270 km (189.694 mi)

Lap Record

1:13.622 (Rubens Barrichello, Ferrari, 2004)

Most wins drivers

Michael Schumacher (7)

Most wins manufacture

Ferrari
McLaren (13)

Event timetable

Local

BST

Friday

P1

10:00-11:30

16:00-17:30

P2

14:00-15:30

20:00-21:30

Saturday

P3

10:00-11:00

16:00-17:00

Qualifying

13:00-14:00

19:00-20:00

Sunday

Race

13:00

19:00

What happened in 2016?

Lewis Hamilton held off Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel to take his sixth victory in Montreal.
