All the teams currently have a contract known as the Concorde Agreement committing them for five more seasons.

He has warned a team pulling out because they have no engine supplier would be no defence against a suit for breach of contract. He told The Independent newspaper “Red Bull would stand up in court and say: ‘Yes, we have a commitment, we do, but we haven’t got an engine”.

He added “My argument would be: ‘You signed the contract to compete. You should have made sure when you signed the contract that you had an engine. Your team was supposed to do this”

Owner Dietrich Mateschitz has been treating to leave the sport if they can’t find a competitive engine for 2016. But there appears to be no other option than to remain with Renault.

Future depends on small teams

The former F1 team owner Walter Wolf says the sports future depends on the independent teams. Independent teams are smaller and provide a key platform for younger drivers.

Speaking to motorsport.com it was clear that there would be no wat the millionaire would join the sport. He said “Today, Mercedes is too big, as well as Ferrari, owned by Fiat. Both teams also have excellent managers.”

The thing which attracted him to the sport was being able to get the same engines as the works teams. He says “Today, independent teams cannot get a competitive engine.”

He gave the example of Williams who use Mercedes engines “These engines are not the same as the Mercedes works team has. You can buy an engine, but you will not get the same [as the works team].”

Adding “For obvious reasons, if I built an engine, I would not give you the same one that I have.” He says Red Bull doesn’t want a Ferrari engine because they know they won’t get the same as the works team.

Praise for helping save us

Manor have praised Ferrari for saving the team as they prepare to switch to Mercedes. He team has used Ferrari power for the past two seasons following the withdrawal of Cotsworth.

Ferrari helped the team to remain in the sport after giving them a year old engine as they emerged from collapse in Feburary. Graeme Lowdon has told Autosport “We’ve had a special relationship with Ferrari because this team wouldn’t exist without Ferrari. It’s a statement of fact.”

He added “If [CEO] Sergio Marchionne and [team principal] Maurizio Arrivabene hadn’t agreed to supply us with an engine for this season we wouldn’t be here. End of story.”

As well as the Mercedes power unit they have agreed to buy parts from Williams which should see them make a step forward next season. Lowdon feels this was the team’s best chance of progress saying “We’ve been in a position where we could take a little bit of time and work out what was the best thing going forward.”

Adding “It turned out the best package going forward was to reignite the relationship with Williams, they were our first supplier [of components] in previous years.”

Haas hinting at Gutierrez

Haas have given a strong hint that Esteban Gutierrez will take their remaining race seat for 2016. The team will join the sport next year and has already signed Romain Grosjean as there led driver.

Team Principal Guenther Steiner has ruled out making the announcement this weekend at their home race in Austin. Steiner however gave a heavy hint that it would be the Mexican.

He was asked by Sky Sports what type of driver the team was looking for, Steiner replied: “Someone who has driven an F1 car, of the current generation, money is always important because it costs a lot of money, and North America is a nice place for a driver to come from.”

Gutierrez meets all the requirements that Haas wants experience in the sport and with partner Ferrari. Haas has an advanced technical partnership next year which will even extend to using the Scuderia’s wind tunnel.

Mercedes boss Toto Wolff has described the Haas model as a “very intelligent way of entering Formula 1”

Breaching contract if you quit Formula One boss Berine Ecclestone has warned that any move by Red Bull to quit F1 before 2020 could result in legal action.
