Charles Leclerc was fastest in third practice for the British Grand Prix, the Ferrari driver set a 27.419 to go almost two-tenths faster than Alex Albon. Leclerc set his fastest time midway through the session before the rain moved in towards the end of the session.<\/p>\n
The Ferrari driver got his timing right putting in his fastest lap before the rain intensified to force the drivers onto the inters. Leclerc had been unable to take part in Practice Two due to an electrical issue on his Ferrari car but was immediately on the pace on Saturday lunchtime.<\/p>\n
Albon continued his impressive weekend ahead of his home Grand Prix, the British-Thai driver had timed his lap perfectly just like Leclerc to go within a tenth. Fernando Alonso put his Aston Martin third going just over a tenth faster than the Alpine of Pierre Gasly. Lewis Hamilton was fifth, the Mercedes had briefly led the session, but his best lap was half a second off Leclerc\u2019s session-topping time<\/p>\n
Mercedes had a difficult Friday, the seven-time champion didn\u2019t manage a second qualifying run as the rain started to fall. That put him ahead of Carlos Sainz by almost three-hundredths of a second.<\/p>\n
Max Verstappen looked early on to challenge for the top spot, but the Red Bull could only manage eighth eight and a half tenths off, while teammate Sergio Perez was fourteenth.<\/p>\n
However, the team didn\u2019t do a soft run in the best of the conditions but remain the favourites. But on the inters Verstappen was a second and a half faster than his nearest rival. Verstappen will be strong favourite for pole position regardless of the conditions.<\/p>\n
George Russell was ninth going two hundredths faster than Yuki Tsunoda, the Mercedes driver another to get the timing right. He reported that it was “spitting” but suggested that the circuit was dry enough for slicks as the drizzle subsided.<\/p>\n
Acting as a guinea pig once again, Lando Norris bolted on soft tyres to observe the drying conditions despite other reports of more rain being set to arrive, although a brief slip off the road at Stowe coincided with continued rain at that part of the course. The McLaren driver going twelfth six hundredths behind Nyck De Vries.<\/p>\n
Norris is facing a post-session investigation by the stewards after McLaren left a cooling fan attached to the rear of his car as he headed out at the start of the hour and a mechanic had to retrieve it at the end of the pit lane.<\/p>\n
Lance Stroll was thirteenth the Aston Martin going nearly three-tenths ahead of Sergio Perez, Kevin Magnussen, and Esteban Ocon. Oscar Piastri was seventeenth ahead of Valtteri Bottas, and Nico Hulkenberg.<\/p>\n
Guanyu Zhou failed to set a time due to an electrical issue on his Alfa Romeo.<\/p>\n
