Carlos Sainz topped the first rain soaked practice session for the Japanese Grand Prix. The session was affected throughout by the session with puddles of rain on the circuit. Daniil Kyvat was second for Red Bull.<\/p>\n
Nico Rosberg was the fastest of the title contenders followed by Sebastian Vettel and team-mate Lewis Hamilton. The circuit conditions were treacherous but all drivers went out on circuit. However, it took an hour before anyone ventured onto the track.<\/p>\n
Max Verstappen set the first time of the day which left him ahead of Sainz when he set his first time which was two seconds down on his team-mate.<\/p>\n
When the track dried out Williams were the first to venture out onto the circuit with Felipe Massa going quickest. However later on Massa and his team-mate Valtteri Bottas both slipped off the track.<\/p>\n
Nico Rosberg improved his time to go fastest which was soon beaten by Verstappen on Inters prompting \u00a0the changeover for most teams starting with Kyvat and Sainz.<\/p>\n
Kyvat went fastest followed by the Spaniard who soon aqua planed as the conditions changed \u00a0again. Verstappen ended the session sixth fractionally faster than Kimi Raikkonen.<\/p>\n
Massa was eight and teammate Bottas tenth fastest separated by Marcus Ericcson\u2019s Sauber. Mclaren\u2019s Jenson Button was just behind in eleventh.<\/p>\n
Fernando Alonso and Daniel Ricciardo were the big names who didn\u2019t set a time during the morning.<\/p>\n
