BAHRAIN GP: Hamilton king of the desert after second victory
Lewis Hamilton has won the Bahrain Grand Prix for the second year in a row to extend his lead at the top of the driver’s world championship. Hamilton was once again opened the gap to his team-mate early on who finished the race second.
Kimi Raikkonen finished in second place after Hamilton’s team-mate Nico Rosberg ran too deep into Turn One allowing both Ferrari’s through into second and third place.
Sebastian Vettel finished fifth after he had a difficult race after sustaining front wing damage to his Ferrari due to a tap with Rosberg. This dropped him back behind the Williams of Valtteri Bottas.
Daniel Ricciardo just crossed the line before his Renault engine reached the end of it life in order to finish in sixth place. Louts’s Romain Grosjean finished in seventh place ahead of Sergio Perez finished eighth for Force India while Daniil Kvyat was ninth in a Red Bull and Felipe Massa.
Jenson Button failed to start the race due to an electrical problem but the team was just outside the points after team mate Fernando Alonso finished 11th.
The brit told Sir Jackie Stewart on the podium that he is “gunning” to become a three times champion by the end of the season.
“The Ferraris gave us a real good run for our money, and out there it was really difficult to look after the tyres in these conditions,” he added.
