Nico Rosberg beat Lewis Hamilton\u2019s run of five pole positions after going fastest in qualifying for this weekend\u2019s Spanish Grand Prix. Both drivers have looked evenly matched throughout the weekend.<\/p>\n
Hamilton told reporters \u201cNico did a great job…I don’t know if I really have the balance (of the car) where I would like it but I did my best with it and I think tomorrow there is a lot to play for.\u201d<\/p>\n
Rosberg said “It’s just fantastic to be on pole because on this track it is particularly important. It is very difficult to overtake here so it is a big advantage for tomorrow.”<\/p>\n
Ferrari\u2019s Sebastian Vettel was third and William\u2019s Valtteri Bottas was fourth. McLaren\u2019s promise of a step forward came true as Spaniard Fernando Alonso made it into Q2 along with his team-mate Jenson Button for the first time this season. They qualified 13th<\/sup> and 14th<\/sup> respectively.<\/p>\n Another Spaniard Carlos Sainz, beat his team-mate Max Verstappen to fifth place.\u00a0 Kimi Raikkonen had a disappointing day only qualifying in seventh place, splitting the Red Bulls of Daniil Kyvat and Daniel Ricciardo.<\/p>\n The odds of Rosberg breaking his team-mates current run of winning the last three out of four races are boosted as the race has been won by eight different winners over eight seasons.<\/p>\n While Will Stevens out qualified his Spanish team-mate for the third race in a row.
