The German has had a number of mistakes in the last couple of races, allowing Hamilton to open a six seven-point lead.

Writing on social media, the four times champion said “I feel the media need to show a little more respect for Sebastian. You simply cannot imagine how hard it is to do what we do at our level.”

Vettel avoids social media but was widely criticised after two mistakes at Sukuza, the first his error in qualifying and for crashing into Red Bull’s Max Verstappen in the race.

Hamilton also said “for any athlete at the top of their game that is. It is to be expected that being humans we will make mistakes but it is how we get through them that count.”

Last year their relationship deteriorated massively, but throughout this season a mutual respect has developed as they both fight for the title. However, Inevitably, there have been a few bumps in the road. Just two weeks ago, Hamilton made it plain he felt Vettel had been over-aggressive at the Russian GP and was fortunate to escape sanction.

Hamilton and Vettel have publicly defended each other. In Bahrain, Vettel interrupted a media conference to denounce what he felt was unfair” questioning of Hamilton, and the second after Hamilton criticised Ferrari’s “interesting tactics” at the British GP before subsequently apologising. “It’s fine,” responded Vettel. “It was silly to say it but we are racing.”

Fake accounts warning

Meanwhile, Lewis Hamilton has also taken to social media to warn fans about a number of fake accounts on Facebook.

In a statement, the four times champion said: “I have been informed that there are a number of accounts impersonating me and messaging a number of you with malicious intent, including asking for money for false charities and being generally inappropriate.”

“Please, can I kindly ask that if you please report them as a fake account and do not engage with any form of communication with them.”

Ferrari made it “to easy” for Mercedes – Vettel

Sebastian Vettel says that the unravelling of Ferrari’s season has made it “too easy” for Mercedes. The Germans hopes of giving Ferrari there first drivers’ championship since 2007, appear over as Lewis Hamilton can win the title in Texas if he wins and Vettel doesn’t finish second.

Vettel’s hopes of a fifth title unravelled majorly at the weekend, a poor qualifying saw him eighth on the grid and an on-track collision with Max Verstappen saw him finish sixth, while Hamilton cruised to a comfortable fourth win in succession.

Vettel hasn’t won a race since Spa in August and is fifty points behind Hamilton with a hundred remaining. He told Sky Sports, “There is still a chance, but the last couple of races we made it a bit too easy for them.”

“But also credit to them, they executed well and that’s the name of the game. We need to look after ourselves and do our bit the next couple of races and then we’ll see. Surely it didn’t help we finished sixth and they won.”

Vettel admitted it hasn’t been an easy few weeks, but Ferrari’s spirit has been unbroken.

Asked if he agreed that Ferrari was lacking experience, Vettel said: “I don’t know exactly what he said, but we spoke internally about what happened [in qualifying]. We were not happy with the result.”

Vietnam on course for 2020

FIA race director Charlie Whiting says that plans for a Vietnamese Grand Prix are currently on target for 2020. Although a contract hasn’t been announced, the South East Asian country has been talked about as a venue for a while.

In August, the Vietnamese government said it would support a race on the streets of the capital Hanoi, in line with Formula One’s vision of racing in “destination cities.”

Last week, Whiting visited the proposed street circuit which is twelve kilometres outside the city centre and said he believes the plans laid out by the local organisers are feasible for a race in two years’ time.

He told ESPN “There’s no actual progress on building the track, but the site’s been identified. It’s in the advanced stages of design. I think, as far as I’m aware, they’re aiming for a 2020 Grand Prix, which shouldn’t be a problem based on previous experience.”

Whiting said the track would be a part street circuit, part purpose-built. He says “It’s mainly on the streets, and there’s a section which is not yet built. So, it’s an open site where the pit building’s going to be built.”

“Part of the track will be built there, which doesn’t exist at the moment. But it will become a road, I understand, after that.”

Teams pick ultras for Austin

Pirelli has announced the driver’s tyre allocations for next weekends United States Grand Prix.
