Fernley believes the team had a ‘clear strategy’ to run just the one car in Malaysia, having failed to get out on track at all in Australia.

He told crash.net “I think it was a very clear strategy here to run one car and you have got to look at it from the point of view, is that the spirit of what you are trying to achieve. It is not up to us. Manor is doing what they can do as best they can. It is up to them to decide their tactics.”

Force India was the only team to veto the team bid to return and Manor has been cleared of wrong doing.

We can says Manor

Manor have says there is no reason why both cars cannot run at the same time after force India called for a investigation into why the team didn’t run both cars in Malaysia.

The team said a “complex fuel system problem” in final free practice developed on Will Stevens car prevented the team from running in qualifying. The team says they deliberately avoided running both cars simultaneously in practice to minimise the risk of making operational mistakes.

Graeme Lowdon told Autosport “I can guarantee you if that car could have moved, it would have raced. There is absolutely no question about it. And it would have qualified.”

“The systems and the people were perfectly happy with the results of everything in [practice] one, two and three from that point of view.”

F1 needs to be affordable

Ferrari boss Maurizio Arrivabene believes Formula 1 needs to become “a bit more affordable” so the future of the sport secure. He however says proposals for standardised cars are too extreme.

The agenda in latter part of last season was the cost of F1 after Caterham and Marussia went into administration. Marussia now Manor managed to return after a rescue package in early 2015. Following this Force India’s Bob Fernley has repeatedly called for a reduction of costs so that independent teams can survive .

Arrivabene told Autosport “We have to do our best to make Formula 1 a bit more affordable. I have to say it is a work in progress at the moment and everybody – they are really committed.”

Hopes of double victory

Daniel Ricciardo has been nominated for the prestigious Laureus World Breakthrough of the Year Award. The Australian was nominated after winning three races last season

The award ceremony will take place in Shanghai days after the Chinese Grand Prix. Ricciardo told Laureus “I’ve never been nominated for something of this calibre. I saw a few other top sportsmen in that list, as well, so it’s just cool to be recognised.
