Nico Rosberg went fastest during first practice for this weekend Malaysian Grand Prix ahead of Ferrari’s Kimi Raikkonen. Rosberg\u2019s team-mate Lewis Hamilton had a difficult morning stopping on track before he had a chance to set a time.<\/p>\n
After missing the season opener Fernando Alonso went fourteenth fastest ahead of his team-mate Jenson Button who was seventeenth fastest. The cause of Alonsos crash remains unknown but has caused tensions between the Spaniard and McLaren.<\/p>\n
Hamilton stoppage was due to an engine failure in the inlet system. Hamilton said on the team over the radio that he could have made it back to the pits, but they told him that they had no telemetry data and had not wanted to risk damage to the engine.<\/p>\n
Raikkonen was almost half a second faster than his team-mate Sebastian Vettel. But it wasn\u2019t a clean day for the Fin as his session was interrupted by an overheating issue that prevented him running in the first half hour.<\/p>\n
Romain Grosjean went fourth fastest with Daniel Ricciardo splitting the Toro Rosso rookies of Carlos Sainz Jr and Max Verstappen in fifth and seventh places.<\/p>\n
Meanwhile Manor Marussia completed their first laps of the season after they failed to run in Australia. Will Stevens and Roberto Mehri completed eight laps each but were 6.5secs and 7.5secs off the pace.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
