However the Spaniard is confident he can take part in the race.

He was not allowed to compete in the Bahrain GP after he had rib fractures following his huge crash in Australian GP. The reason why he wasn’t allowed to compet is because of fears of what further damage could do. They hope that next Thursday he will be sufficiently fit to pass the medical,

When asked about Alonso chances of being ready, McLaren racing director Eric Boullier said: “I think he’s confident. But he’s going to go through the scans. The FIA will inspect them and decide yes or no.” Boullier told Autosport that Alonso had a good experience mentoring Stoffell Vandoorne but he was probably frustrated.

He feels Alonso staying in Bahrain underlines the commitment to the team which has sometimes been questioned by his comments.

Will be finalised – Todt

FIA President Jean Todt is adamant that the new sporting and technical regulations will be decided by the revised date of April 30. The changes were due to have been finalised by the 29th of February.

However the aero The aero regulations are said to be close to being finalised, with some work to be done on the engine rules, with cost, performance, noise and supply of power units the focus. Teams have already agreed body work changes to make the cars more dramatic looking.

Todt says the changes only a majority rather unanimity is required to push the rules through. He told Autosport “At the last meeting we had, I asked the engine manufacturers to drop the price of the engine to make sure every competitor in F1 will have the possibility of having one engine supplied.

“We have also asked them to agree on engine convergence and to make some proposals to increase further, as it already has been one step, the noise of the engine.”

There has been some concerns by drivers who feel that will make it tougher to overtake. But race director Charlie Whiting believes that the best they can to take everyone’s views into account to come up with a set of rules.

“We have had countless meetings with technical directors of every team and we have had a range of proposals [ranging] from what appears to be a huge amount of downforce to a very low level of downforce.” he said

Politics overshadowing F1

Toto Wolff says the sport is 90% about politics and is overshadowing the title battle between Mercedes and Ferrari. While Nico Rosberg won the Bahrain Grand Prix much of the talking points were about the qualifying format and whether it should change.

Wolff told ESPN “It seems that it has increased to a level that is 90% politics and 90% off-track discussions around governance and qualifying formats and terrible ideas. So I think hopefully soon we can get back to sport and hopefully soon we can have a race that will be exciting. Definitely there is a battle on.”

He says that during the race in Bahrain that it showed Mercedes still has the edge but Ferrari is closing in.

“Looking at the pure gaps, at a certain stage we were 15 seconds up on Kimi and, at the end, we were only a couple of seconds up, so I have no doubt that the Ferrari is very strong – and you could see that today.” He added

PANAMA PAPERS – Rosberg contract leaked The German broadcaster ARD says that Nico Rosberg contract with Mercedes have been leaked as part of the papers from Panama law firm Mossack Fonseca.
