Vettel tops second day of testing with Rosberg gains most mileage <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sebastian Vettel was fastest on the second day of pre-season testing at the Circuit de Catalynua – Barcelona. However the Ferrari brought out the red flag in the closing moments.<\/p>\n

The German set his fastest lap on the new ultra-soft tyres during the morning session. Vettel\u2019s former team-mate Daniel Riccardo was second ahead of Force India\u2019s Sergio Perez who set his fastest time on the super-soft tyres. Vettel\u2019s lap time was two seconds faster than pole last season.<\/p>\n

Arai leaves Honda <\/strong><\/p>\n

Honda motorsport boss Yasuhisa Arai will leave the Japanese car giant Formula One program at the end of the month. The announcement came following a board meeting when the company announced its \u201cannual organisational changes.\u201d<\/p>\n

Arai will be replaced by Yusuke Hasegawa, \u00a0as head of development, manufacturing and management of the F1 project. The move comes following pressure from McLaren after they\u00a0Honda struggled for reliability and performance.<\/p>\n

Honda however will not be changing their philosophy for 2016 but changing the turbine, compressor and MGU-H. Arai told Autosport last year \u201cIt’s quite a different situation – 2015 and 2016,” Arai added.<\/p>\n

“We didn’t have any experience with the complex system, so you can imagine the challenge, but we learned a lot and we have the confidence we can catch up.\u201d<\/p>\n

Mclaren last year also lobbied Honda to replace Arai last season.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Remaining a small team \u2013 Ryan<\/strong><\/p>\n

The Racing Director of Manor Dave Ryan has revealed he wants the team to remain a small team and not set unrealistic goals for the future.<\/p>\n

Ryan is returning to the sport after being sacked by McLaren for lying about ordering Lewis Hamilton to let Jarno Trulli through on the last lap of 2009 Australian Grand Prix under a safety car.<\/p>\n

Ryan told Autosport \u201cI’ve a fairly clear brief to do whatever I want. We want to be a genuine, solid team, and that’s what we are building.<\/p>\n

\u201cWe’d like to think we can become a good midfield team, and beyond that a really strong midfield team, a really strong independent team.\u201d He says the team wants to remain small but pull above their weight.<\/p>\n

Ryan is a key player is a rebuilt team following the teams near collapse in 2014. The owner Stephen Fitzpatrick is hoping to see the team move up the grid this season.<\/p>\n

Ryan added \u201cWe’ve got what many people consider to be the best engine on the grid, the same spec as the works team. We’ve a great rear-end package, so that side of it is all sorted for us, and we’ve just got to do the rest.\u201d<\/p>\n

Big potential \u2013 Perez <\/strong><\/p>\n

Sergio Perez says that Force India\u2019s new car has \u201cbig potential\u201d after his first day in the car. The VJM09 was launched by the team yesterday with development driver Alfonso Celis Jr driving on its first day of running.<\/p>\n

Perez was third fastest on the ultra-soft tyres today in Barcelona behind Sebastian Vettel and Daniel Ricciardo. He told Autosport \u201cVery good, very positive. I am very happy with my first day in the car, there is big potential that we have to exploit out of this car.\u201d<\/p>\n

He added \u201cI certainly feel comfortable and happy to be here in the first day. We more or less managed to complete the whole programme that we were hoping to do today.\u201d The team aren\u2019t having the delays they suffered in 2015 which meant there full package wasn\u2019t available until July last year.<\/p>\n
