Leclerc edged out the seven-time champion by four thousandths of a second to go second.

Mercedes looked to have turned it round overnight after the Ferrari duo topped both of Friday’s practice sessions. Still, the Italian team had urged caution yesterday evening as they expected the Silver Arrows to bounce back. They had finished FP2 three tenths off Ferrari, but their setup work overnight has turned that into a three-tenths advantage. George Russell found himself fourth, four-tenths behind Leclerc.

However, Leclerc’s first lap on his qualifying simulation, which would normally have been his quickest, was badly compromised by traffic in the final sector, but the Monegasque was already two-tenths down on Antonelli by the end of sector two. Russell was nearly two-tenths faster than Max Verstappen.

Red Bull had looked to be in the mix on Friday, but Verstappen appeared to struggle as the final qualifying simulations got underway, the four-time champion nine and a half tenths off. The Dutchman was, however, nearly a tenth and a quarter ahead of Oscar Piastri, with Gabriel Bortoletto ahead of Isack Hadjar.

After “extensive work” on Lando Norris’ car after he ground to a halt in FP2, adding that the team broke curfew to replace the wiring harness and ESME pack “within the permitted allocation”.

The world champion managed ninth, just over a tenth and a quarter behind Hadjar and ahead of Nico Hulkenberg by nearly a tenth and a half. Audi has been one of the standout performances in practice, with both cars once again in the top ten and just over a second off the pace set by Antonelli

Esteban Ocon put his Haas eleventh, the Haas missing out on the top ten by nearly a tenth and a quarter as the Frenchman went six hundredths ahead of Carlos Sainz. But Ocon’s teammate, Ollie Bearman, crashed at Massenet, bringing out a red flag, after which no one was able to improve in the remaining five minutes of the session.

Bearman quickly apologised to his team over the radio. Saying “Sorry, guys. It’s the bottoming! Oh my gosh.” Haas is in a race against time to repair his car for qualifying

Bearman ended the session seven thousandths behind Pierre Gasly in fourteenth, while Liam Lawson was two tenths further behind. Alex Albon finished a tenth ahead of Arvid Lindblad after bailing out of a qualifying simulation at Sainte Devote. Sergio Perez was ahead of Franco Colapinto, who managed to recover his Alpine after clipping a barrier.

The Argentine split the Cadillac’s after going two-tenths behind Perez and ahead of Valtteri Bottas by nearly three-tenths. Fernando Alonso was three and a half tenths ahead of Lance Stroll, as the Aston Martin’s completed the field.

Related

MONACO GP – Lewis Hamilton leads Charles Leclerc by a tenth in second practice as Ferrari appears to hold advantage

MONACO GP – Charles Leclerc leads Ferrari one-two, a quarter of a second faster than teammate Lewis Hamilton in first practice

Welcome to the Monaco Grand Prix – 04/06/2026

PRIXVIEW – Monaco Grand Prix

Kimi Antonelli was fastest in third practice for the Monaco Grand Prix; the championship leader set a 12.700 to put himself three tenths ahead of the Ferrari duo of Charles Leclerc and Lewis Hamilton.
