Nico Rosberg has beaten his Mercedes team-mate Lewis Hamilton by 0.07 of a second to take pole for tomorrows penultimate round of the season at the Autodromo Jose Carlos Pace.<\/p>\n
Both of the Mercedes continued the trend they have been setting all weekend by being half a second faster than Ferrari\u2019s Sebastian Vettel who qualified third with his team-mate Kimi fifth. The Ferrari duo will start side by side after Williams\u2019s Valtteri Bottas who qualified fourth, gained a penalty in \u00a0XX drops three places.<\/p>\n
Mercedes team boss Toto Wolff told BBC Sport the reason why Rosberg is performing is because \u201cFor Lewis maybe some of the pressure is gone and whether that is good or not I don’t know. But it is good going into next season.\u201d<\/p>\n
Also the German was a lot better on his tyres which could play into his hands.\u00a0Rosberg said \u201cI’m pleased with today. It’s the best place to be for tomorrow’s race. Q2 didn’t really go to plan but I got it all together in Q3 and the last lap was on the edge.\u201d<\/p>\n
Hamilton said he \u201c was very happy with the work we did with the engineers, the laps were looking quite good, very good through Q1 and Q2 and just Q3, I just wasn\u2019t able to find that small bit of edge.\u201d<\/p>\n
McLaren\u2019s Fernando Alonso was out even before his session began after a lack of power stopped him on track. However the Spaniard made light of his bad afternoon sunbathing as he watch the session unfold from the middle of the circuit.<\/p>\n
His team-mate Jenson Button also failed to make it out of Q1. But the both continued to entertain the crowds by climbing to the top of the podium.<\/p>\n
Daniil Kyvat was seventh fastest behind the Force India of Nico Hulkenberg and local boy Felipe Massa put his Williams eightieth fastest. The second Red Bull of Daniel Ricciardo was ninth fastest but drops to nineteenth following an engine change.<\/p>\n
