The United States and Mexican Grand Prix\u2019s are shrouded in uncertainty as a result of heavy thunderstorms caused by Hurricane Patricia. Yesterday the Second practice session was cancelled due to the heavy rain.<\/p>\n

Today forecasters are predicting 30cm of rain which may cause the session to be postponed until Sunday. The race was due to be a showdown between Ferrari’s Sebastian Vettel\u00a0and Mercedes Lewis Hamilton. Hamilton needs to beat Vettel by nine points and Rosberg by two to win the title this weekend.<\/p>\n

Organisers have not made contingency plans yet as the weather forecast is changing so frequently. However there\u00a0are open to moving it to Sunday as they have done before in 2010 during a storm which hit Suzuka after practice three because of and Typhoon Ma-on in 2004.<\/p>\n

They can run the session Sunday morning or deciding the grid by another method.<\/p>\n

Forecast<\/strong><\/p>\n

Patricia could weaken to a tropical storm by Saturday morning. At around 1 a.m. local time the storm was about 135 miles southwest of the city of Zacatecas and moving north-northeast at 20 mph. \u00a0U.S. National Hurricane Center said Patricia could weaken to a tropical storm by Saturday morning.<\/p>\n

Hurricane Patricia is on its way to Mexico and is one of the strongest tropical storms on record. The storm is even raising concerns about the forthcoming race in Mexico next weekend.<\/p>\n

Already Patricia has caused damage in the capital Mexico City which could have a knock-on effect for the race next week. The city is holding it\u2019s first race since 1992.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
