PREVIEW – Barcelona Test

Features Previews Testing & Race Reports

The first test of 2016 takes us to the Circuit de Catalynua-Barcelona. The circuit is a favourite venue for testing of teams as its near many bases in Europe and is warmer than northern Europe.

The circuit is high speed and has fast corners which will give teams a overview of the cars and where they are starting from. With stable regulations expect teams to have closed the gap to Mercedes but this may be unlikely. Teams will be looking to understand there new cars as well as us but also their rivals.

Facts Figures

Venue Circuit de Barcelona-Catalunya, Montmeló, Spain
Circuit Length 4.655 km (2.892 mi)
Lap Record 1:21.670 (Kimi Räikkönen, Ferrari, 2008)

What will we learn?

We will get a grounding of where everyone is at the moment but these cars will be different by the time we get to Melbourne in a month’s time. The teams during the two weeks will want to do as much mileage in the eight days they have.

After these two tests the next one will be at this circuit in May following the Spanish Grand Prix. So after these tests development will be hard until after China because you have three flyway races and the brief two week break isn’t on the calendar this season.
